'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith continues battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he reminisces about the thrilling closing stages of Swansea's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses amid the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range shot from distance, and the defender immediately slammed home the loose ball before racing off toward the home end to revel in the moment, with the crowd swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an extraordinary turnaround given Swansea had trailed 2-0 during the second half. During the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The victory booked a upcoming match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had arguably the best view when the underdogs took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that range," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right flank after Orient changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the City players who paid tribute to the way his former team approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are very good but even the basics and routine actions, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they never miss a pass and they understand how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're holding your own and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and attention just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at Orient and has rapidly achieved similar status in Wales. At Orient he linked up again with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a temporary move at lower division Salford City, before he permanently left Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a bit naive going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say development squad matches is completely distinct. Sometimes it appears play is circulated without real physicality. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that maturation for his team and nation, shining for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including two matches fixtures against the German national team. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his eye for a decisive through ball.

Early Days

This represents a remarkable path for the player from the neighborhood in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his father, his father, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

The player's single match for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they featured on an synthetic surface and the venue ceiling was shut owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "That proved to be a extended travel and it was freezing," he says, smiling. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I realized I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it reached a stage where I thought I required a fresh start, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

New Environment

This occurs during the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed fun bus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to spend time with the guys but I'm planning to be the following person to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on public transport after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
